A 32-year-old woman, Serena Dolnics, was discovered in a house in Valparaiso, located about 50 miles from Chicago, where she was found near the body of her deceased father. She has been charged with murder after allegedly killing her father and removing his heart. The incident came to light when police responded to an emergency call expressing concern for the well-being of 69-year-old Gregory Dolnics, who was reported to have been behaving oddly.
Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement officers were informed by Serena’s boyfriend, who was present at the residence, that she was covered in blood and suspected of stabbing her father. Upon further investigation, the police found Gregory’s body with severe slash wounds and his heart missing. An autopsy revealed that the injuries were inflicted with knives, including incisions to remove the heart.
Serena Dolnics, who was found with blood on her feet, was arrested after receiving medical treatment for hand injuries. Despite claiming that the cuts were from gardening, authorities believe they are consistent with knife wounds. She maintained that she had a good relationship with her father and denied witnessing any harm done to him.
During her initial court appearance, Dolnics pleaded not guilty while wearing a suicide-prevention garment. She appeared hesitant during a video chat session. She has not yet secured legal representation but indicated she would address this matter. A follow-up court hearing is scheduled for August 11.
