A video captured a childcare worker throwing a shoe at a five-year-old girl while other staff members looked on and laughed at Destiny Development Centre in Inglewood, California, on January 16. The incident left the child in tears. The mother, Michelae Jones, expressed shock and anger, stating she trusted the facility to keep her child safe.
The girl informed her mother about the incident the same day, leading Jones to confront the facility’s director, who was slow to respond. It took two weeks before Jones could view the CCTV footage. Concerns about safety protocols at the facility were raised by the child’s aunt, Kira Townsend, questioning the lack of regular footage review.
The nursery’s director, Danielle Williams, initiated an investigation and claimed the worker, nicknamed “Ms. Emily,” accidentally hit the child while throwing shoes to another room. Williams stressed that the facility does not tolerate child abuse and promptly fired the worker and dismissed the other staff members who failed to report the incident.
Williams assured that thorough background checks are conducted on all employees. Jones demanded legal action against the worker for assault and child abuse, emphasizing that a mere apology is insufficient. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the matter to ensure justice is served.
