“Crime Report Reveals Top-Risk UK Railway Stations”

Date:

A recent report by the British Transport Police has unveiled the railway stations in the country most affected by various crimes like sex assaults, violent attacks, muggings, and drug offenses. The data revealed that major transport hubs in London, as well as stations in cities like Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, and Liverpool, experienced high numbers of criminal incidents.

Euston Station in London topped the list with over 1,500 recorded offenses last year, including violent offenses, drug crimes, sexual offenses, and theft incidents. The report identified a total of nearly 18,000 crimes across 30 stations in Britain during the 2024-25 period, averaging about 50 offenses daily.

London Bridge station led in weapons crimes and robbery, while Reading had the most bicycle thefts, and Brighton reported the highest number of graffiti incidents. Public order offenses were notably high at London Bridge, followed by Birmingham New Street, London Euston, and Leeds.

Several stations outside London, such as Leeds, Brighton, Liverpool Lime Street, Glasgow Central, Reading, and Wolverhampton, also recorded significant levels of criminal activities. RMT General Secretary Eddie Dempsey emphasized the urgency for increased British Transport Police presence on railways to address the rising safety concerns for both staff and passengers.

In response, Network Rail assured the public of safety measures in place at stations, including round-the-clock staffing, regular patrols by the British Transport Police, and extensive CCTV coverage. The British Transport Police reiterated their commitment to ensuring safe rail journeys through public awareness campaigns and strategic patrols based on crime reports and intelligence.

The ten stations with the highest crime records last year were Euston, Kings Cross, London Bridge, St Pancras International, Birmingham New Street, Paddington, Manchester Piccadilly, Waterloo, Kings Cross St Pancras Underground, and Finsbury Park. The report comes after a criminal was apprehended for attempting to rob a teenage girl at Manchester Piccadilly, underscoring the importance of maintaining vigilance and security on railway premises.
