The tensions escalated after Trump’s actions in Venezuela resulted in an energy blockade that severely impacted Cuba, leading to widespread blackouts, food shortages, and economic turmoil on the island.
Díaz-Canel emphasized Cuba’s readiness to protect its independence and sovereignty, stating that the country is prepared to fight resolutely if necessary. Despite expressing a desire to avoid conflict, he asserted that Cuba is not intimidated by the prospect of war and is taking proactive measures to ensure readiness and prevent any surprises.
The Cuban leader condemned the Trump administration’s aggressive rhetoric as a deliberate attempt to intimidate and destabilize Cuba. He emphasized that Cuba is a peaceful nation that poses no threat to others, highlighting its commitment to global solidarity.
