Researchers have issued a warning about a dangerous flesh-eating bacteria present in bodies of water throughout a section of New York, potentially causing death within 48 hours for those infected. Dr. Christopher Gobler, an ecologist at Stony Brook University’s School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences, revealed the discovery of “vibrio vulnificus hotspots” in several ponds across Long Island. He emphasized that individuals contracting the bacteria could face a 20% fatality rate within two days.
