A 77-year-old woman tragically lost her life in a tragic incident involving a collision with a lorry, according to authorities. The woman was hit by an HGV on Harrogate Road in Bradford at 5:35 pm BST on Wednesday. Subsequently, her body was discovered on Neville Road in East Bowling, over three miles away from the initial impact site, as reported by West Yorkshire Police.
Regrettably, the woman was declared deceased at the scene. Following the incident, a 55-year-old man was taken into custody on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. However, he has been released on bail pending further investigation.
A police spokesperson stated that based on their investigation, it is believed that the woman was carried by the vehicle to Neville Road, where her body was later found. The 55-year-old suspect was apprehended in connection with the incident and subsequently released on bail for further inquiries.
Detective Inspector Paul Conroy expressed deep concern over the distressing event involving the elderly pedestrian in Bradford, offering condolences to the family who are currently receiving support from trained officers.
Authorities are urging anyone who was in the vicinity of Harrogate Road or Killinghall Road, or who may have captured footage of the HGV or the pedestrian at the traffic lights, to come forward with information. In particular, officers are seeking to speak with the drivers of a red Ford Max, grey Skoda SUV, silver Toyota, and white SUV, as well as individuals who witnessed the HGV heading towards Neville Road.
