Former professional footballer Stephen Warnock, known for his time with England and Liverpool, assisted the authorities in apprehending a man who had been spying on two women’s home for weeks by strategically waiting for him. The 44-year-old, now a pundit, took action after the man, Andrew Mulhearn, was repeatedly captured on the women’s Ring doorbell camera approaching their front door. Warnock, from Ormskirk, Lancashire, collaborated with his fiancée, who is the sister of one of the victims, to monitor the property and track Mulhearn’s movements.
Upon Mulhearn’s arrival and realization that he might be discovered, he attempted to flee. Warnock pursued him for about 40 minutes, following him until the police, alerted by a 999 call, were able to make an arrest.
According to the Liverpool Echo, Mulhearn, aged 30 and residing on the same street as the victims in Mossley Hill, Liverpool, received a suspended 12-week prison sentence for two counts of non-violent harassment over several weeks the previous summer.
Warnock explained that his personal motivation stemmed from having two daughters and feeling it was unjust for individuals to instill fear in young girls, whether inside or outside their homes. Recognizing the limitations of law enforcement resources, Warnock took it upon himself to identify the perpetrator and provide evidence to the police for a stronger case.
Mulhearn’s harassment began in July 2025, with the victims initially mistaking him for a potential burglar based on the footage from their Ring doorbell camera. Upon closer examination, it became evident that Mulhearn was consistently appearing at the same time each night, peering through the front window.
Despite police advice to contact them if Mulhearn returned, Warnock felt compelled to monitor the situation personally due to the lack of information about the perpetrator. His vigilance paid off when he spotted Mulhearn and began tracking him discreetly.
After a series of events involving Mulhearn’s attempted escape and collaboration with another individual, the police intervened and detained Mulhearn. Subsequently, Mulhearn was charged, admitted guilt in court, and received a sentence that included rehabilitation days, unpaid work hours, and a restraining order.
Warnock, now a pundit for various media outlets, highlighted the impact of harassment on victims and the importance of taking action to address such behavior. He emphasized the need to understand the emotional toll on victims and the necessity of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.
