“F-16s Scrambled Over DC, Trigger Sonic Boom”

Date:

Fighter jets were deployed over Washington DC today, triggering a ‘sonic boom’ heard by residents in the area. F-16 aircraft were scrambled into the sky to intercept a civilian plane that breached restricted airspace around 11:15 am.

The jets created a sonic boom as they escorted the unauthorized aircraft out of the restricted zone above the US capital. Washington DC is safeguarded by a tightly controlled airspace area known as the Special Flight Rules Area, requiring pilots to adhere to strict protocols and maintain continuous communication with air traffic control within a 30-nautical-mile radius.

The US Air Force confirmed the dispatch of fighter jets to intercept a “general aviation aircraft” that violated restricted airspace, successfully guiding it away from the area. Pilots were reminded to stay informed about restricted zones, particularly around Washington DC and Mar-a-Lago in Florida, where Trump owns a residence.

The North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD) reported that NORAD F-16 fighter aircraft from the Continental U.S. NORAD Region intercepted a general aviation aircraft that breached FAA restricted airspace over the United States National Capital Region, safely escorting it away without incident. NORAD emphasized the importance of checking FAA Notice to Airmen (NOTAMs) and Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs) in designated regions.

NORAD outlined procedures for pilots to follow in case of interception, stressing the layered defense network employed to identify and address potential threats. The reminder to pilots stemmed from the frequent instances of aircraft straying into restricted areas, including recent cases near locations where Donald Trump has been present.

In a previous incident last September, six unauthorized aircraft entered restricted airspace over Bedminster, New Jersey, during a weekend when Donald Trump was at his golf course. NORAD intervened, deploying jets to intercept and redirect the private aircraft away from the Trump National Golf Club. The US Air Force utilized F-16 fighter jets to handle the interception.
