An explosion at a bar in Almeria, Spain has resulted in the death of one person and injuries to at least three others.
Emergency responders, including firefighters and police, swiftly arrived at La Posada bar near the bullring in Almeria, located in the southeastern region of Spain. Initial reports suggest that the deceased individual was a passerby near the bar at the time of the explosion.
The blast, potentially caused by a gas leak, caused damage to several cars in the area. Authorities have cordoned off the vicinity following the incident that occurred at 5:20 pm local time.
A spokesperson from a regional government emergency response coordination center confirmed the tragic event, stating, “Two explosions occurred this afternoon at a cafe in Almeria city center, resulting in one fatality and three injuries. The incident took place around 5:20 pm on Calle Alfarerias in the city center.”
The spokesperson added, “Multiple reports indicated a possible gas explosion leading to a fire within the premises, resulting in partial facade collapse. Emergency teams, including the Almería Fire Brigade, National Police, and local law enforcement, were promptly mobilized.”
Regarding the casualties, the spokesperson mentioned, “Two explosions were reported, one at the cafe and another in an adjoining garage, likely due to gas. Unfortunately, one person lost their life in the incident, while three others sustained injuries.”
“Two of the injured individuals have been transported to Torrecardenas Hospital, one in critical condition due to burns and the other with minor smoke inhalation injuries. The third injured person has been taken to the health center near the bullring, with their condition currently undisclosed.”
During this period of increased tourism in Spanish cities like Almeria, due to ongoing Easter processions, the nationalities of the deceased and injured individuals have not been disclosed.
