A plane was rerouted due to a potential health scare involving a passenger who may have been exposed to the Ebola virus during the flight. The flight, originating from Paris and headed to the US, made an unscheduled stop in Montreal after the situation arose.
US Customs and Border Protection revealed that the individual, mistakenly allowed to board the Paris flight, had recently traveled to East Africa, an area currently facing an Ebola outbreak. The passenger’s entry onto the flight was deemed a mistake due to restrictions in place to prevent Ebola transmission.
The flight was redirected to Montreal instead of its intended destination in Detroit, as a precautionary measure. The passenger in question was removed from the plane upon landing in Montreal before the flight resumed its journey to Detroit.
Additionally, the US Department of Homeland Security and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention imposed a 30-day travel ban on non-US passport holders from certain African countries to mitigate the risk of Ebola spread. Screening protocols were also implemented for travelers with recent connections to the affected regions.
Air France confirmed that a Congolese passenger was denied entry into the US. The airline’s crew followed standard procedures by wearing masks upon being informed about the situation. New regulations dictate that travelers from select countries, like the Democratic Republic of the Congo, can only enter the US through designated airports.
The World Health Organization has classified the Ebola outbreak as a global health emergency due to its rapid spread. The WHO reported confirmed cases in Congo and Uganda, with a significant number of suspected cases and deaths related to the outbreak.
