Overland routes are deemed unsafe due to terrorist activities, with blockades implemented by armed groups targeting key routes. There is a high risk of kidnapping and criminal activities in Mali, including the capital city of Bamako. The country has been facing insurgencies linked to al Qaida and the Islamic State group, along with separatist movements in the north. The situation in Mali, as well as neighboring countries Niger and Burkina Faso, has worsened due to escalating armed group activities and government forces’ actions. Following military coups, these countries have sought assistance from Russia in combating Islamic militants.
