A 32-year-old mother of two, described as “healthy,” has tragically passed away following liposuction surgery, prompting a manslaughter investigation by the authorities.
Rebeca Llacho Cahuana underwent the procedure alone, commencing at approximately 5 pm on Friday, April 17, with an expected duration of four hours. Concern arose when a clinic staff member contacted her sister around 10 pm with distressing news.
Jackie relayed to local media that she was informed of her sister’s surgery complications without specific details. Subsequently, Rebeca was swiftly transported to a public hospital, where medical professionals confirmed her death shortly after her admission.
Before the surgery in Cayma, Peru, Rebeca was reportedly in good health and had successfully cleared all required medical tests. Her sister has since lodged a formal complaint with the police.
The surgeon, identified as José David Molina Barreto, is now reportedly the subject of a manslaughter inquiry. Allegedly, he had rented a room at the clinic for the surgical procedure and is not listed as a plastic surgery specialist by the Peruvian Medical College.
According to regional health manager Walther Oporto, the clinic was only authorized to function as a consultation facility, not as a surgical center. Authorities have been unsuccessful in locating Molina, and Rebeca is survived by her two young children.
In response to the incident, Clínica Florez Salud issued a statement on Tuesday, April 21, emphasizing compliance with all necessary licenses and regulations. The clinic affirmed cooperation with relevant authorities, providing complete documentation to assist in clarifying the circumstances.
