In a chilling real-life incident reminiscent of a movie plot, a former adult film star brutally murdered her ex-father-in-law by beheading him after starting a relationship with her stepson. Devyn Michaels, 47, was taken into custody following the discovery of Jonathan Willette, 46, who had been beheaded and treated with bleach and ammonia at his residence in Las Vegas, USA in August 2023. Law enforcement officers who arrived at the scene described the body emitting toxic fumes due to the chemical mixture.
The tumultuous relationship between Michaels and Willette, who shared two young daughters, took a tragic turn. Michaels was entangled in a complex family dynamic, being concurrently married to Willette’s adult son, thus occupying the roles of partner and daughter-in-law. Michaels confessed to second-degree murder as part of a plea deal, resulting in a 15-year prison term with parole eligibility.
During her sentencing in July, Michaels shockingly asserted her innocence, leading to a first-degree murder trial. Eventually, she received a sentence of 20 years to life, with an additional consecutive term of eight to 20 years for employing a lethal weapon in the crime. Michaels disclosed that she killed Willette to raise her children with his son, despite never being formally married to Willette but marrying Deviere in November 2021 for assistance with her medical issues and to form a family with her daughters.
Prosecutor John Giordani presented a family photo of Michaels, Deviere, and the children, emphasizing Michaels’ desire for a future with her son and the necessity of removing Willette from the picture. Michaels underwent a polygraph test where her physiological responses indicated potential involvement in Willette’s demise. She admitted to striking Willette with a wooden spoon on the fatal night, intending to inflict harm that would necessitate hospitalization, thereby clearing the way for her family plans.
Investigations suggested that Willette’s decapitated head was disposed of and potentially taken to a landfill. Prior to her sentencing, Michaels emotionally proclaimed her innocence, vowing to persist in proving it. Regrettably, the murder weapon and Willette’s head remain missing, casting doubt on Michaels’ claims of innocence.
