UK households relying on Freeview for their television entertainment are advised to check their equipment and consider performing a quick retune. This guidance comes after the confirmation of several channel changes, including some services being rebranded and others relocating within the TV guide. While not a significant overhaul, conducting a swift retune will ensure that TVs are fully updated.
Freeview has officially announced the update, stating, “On May 20, 2026, certain broadcasters will be making adjustments to their channels. It is necessary to retune your TV to keep your channels and TV Guide current.”
Among the alterations, two channels have undergone name changes. Hobbycraft TV, previously on channel 97, is now known as Shop Unlimited, while Great! Romance Mix on channel 61 has been replaced by Great! TV +1. Additionally, there have been modifications to channel numbers, with Great! Movies shifting from channel 61 to channel 62, and Great! TV +1 assuming channel 61.
Freeview emphasized that channel evolution is ongoing, with individual providers deciding on channel movements, additions, or removals. The platform continues to ensure a diverse and engaging content selection for audiences.
If the updates are not displaying on your TV, manual retuning may be necessary. To retune your TV:
– Press the menu button on your TV or set-top box remote
– Select “set-up,” “installation,” “update,” or a similar option
– If prompted for a password, try “1234” or “0000”
– Choose “first-time installation,” “factory reset,” “full retune,” or “default settings”
– Confirm deletion of existing channels if prompted
– The retune process should commence automatically
– Save any channels found during the scan if prompted
