An unfortunate incident on the A30 in Cornwall near Connor Downs resulted in the tragic death of an eight-year-old boy and left a five-year-old boy critically injured after a multi-vehicle crash.
The emergency services responded to the westbound carriageway of the A30 on Friday morning following the collision. The eight-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene, while the five-year-old boy was swiftly transported to Bristol Children’s Hospital in critical condition.
Additionally, two women who were passengers in the same vehicle sustained injuries. A woman in her 70s suffered severe injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Derriford Hospital, while a woman in her 40s was treated for injuries at Derriford and has since been discharged.
A man in his 60s was taken into custody on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Following treatment for minor injuries, he was released pending further investigation.
Detective Inspector Andy Heath of Devon and Cornwall Police Serious Collisions Investigation Team expressed condolences to those affected by the tragedy. He emphasized ongoing investigations by the Roads Policing Team and Serious Collisions Investigation Team and urged the public to refrain from speculation on the cause of the collision.
