A caring father of three tragically lost his life after offering a ride to a female hitchhiker who fatally shot him, as reported by the police.
The St. Louis Metropolitan Police disclosed that William Palmer was fatally shot on Sunday, February 1, while attempting to drive Brittany Rivoire, 36, to a warming shelter in St. Louis, Missouri. Despite his good intentions, the situation took a horrifying turn when she drew a gun on him and killed him.
William’s body was found before 2:30 am on Sunday, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
His fiancée, Riyen Jones, mentioned that Palmer had encountered Rivoire while collecting scrap metal. Initially, he was accompanied by a friend who left due to Rivoire’s suspicious behavior, according to First Alert 4.
Riyen had cautioned William against picking up strangers, expressing concerns for his safety. She remarked that he frequently assisted people by offering rides, even though she had advised him against it.
Police reported that Rivoire was captured on camera shooting Palmer in the head before driving his truck a short distance and abandoning it. She then hitched a ride with another driver before being apprehended.
Rivoire now faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, armed criminal action, and first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle. She is currently in custody without bail.
Family members of Palmer praised his altruistic nature, highlighting his willingness to help strangers and provide transportation to those in need. Riyen described him as the pillar of their family, emphasizing his selfless nature.
A GoFundMe campaign initiated by Riyen to support Palmer’s family described him as a kind-hearted and generous individual, aiming to raise funds for their assistance. The campaign has raised over $2,500 towards its $3,000 target.
William is survived by Riyen, his 21-year-old and six-year-old sons, and his 18-year-old daughter.
