The family of a woman who heroically saved a child before perishing in an explosion at a residence in Bristol have shared their admiration for her “affection and empathy”.
Joanne Shaw passed away alongside her former partner, Ryan Kelly, 41, at their home on Sterncourt Road on May 3. Avon and Somerset Police disclosed that the couple had a history of domestic altercations and self-referred the case to the police oversight body.
Authorities have classified the explosion as intentional and labeled Joanne’s demise as a homicide. No further suspects are being sought in connection with her tragic death.
According to a neighbor, Joanne, 35, instructed a child to play outside on a trampoline just before an argument ensued in the early hours of Sunday leading up to the fatal incident.
Joanne’s family has conveyed a tribute through the police, highlighting that she “leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and strength that will endure forever” following her untimely passing.
In their statement, the family stated, “Joanne brought warmth, kindness, and strength into the lives of numerous individuals. While her loving presence will be deeply missed, her memory will be cherished in our hearts endlessly.”
Authorities mentioned that Joanne’s family has requested privacy but desires the world to recognize the significance she held in their lives.
Describing Joanne’s nurturing character, the tribute continued, “Her child has suffered an unimaginable loss with the departure of their mother in this tragedy. Joanne’s love for her child was limitless, and her child was her world. She was a dedicated and affectionate mother.”
