The Houthi rebels have announced their intention to continue launching military strikes in the near future. This group from Yemen recently entered the conflict involving Iran by targeting Israeli military facilities with ballistic missiles.
This morning’s assault marked the first time the Houthi rebels have intervened in the conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran. They launched a barrage of ballistic missiles aimed at strategic Israeli military locations.
In a statement released on Telegram on Saturday, the rebel group expressed their actions as a show of support for various resistance movements in Palestine, Iraq, Lebanon, and Iran. They emphasized their commitment to carrying out military operations in the coming days to halt enemy attacks.
Yahya Saree, the Houthi military spokesperson, stated last night that the group is prepared to join the conflict if new alliances are formed against Iran and its allies, or if the Red Sea is used for hostile activities against Iran.
Back in 2025, Donald Trump initiated a bombing campaign, with UK support, to prevent Houthi assaults on shipping in the Red Sea. The attacks resulted in casualties among top Houthi officials but ceased after a ceasefire agreement.
The Houthis, an armed group with political and religious affiliations, advocate for Yemen’s Shia Muslim minority, the Zaidis. They align with the “axis of resistance” led by Iran, opposing Israel, the US, and Western nations, along with groups like Hamas and Hezbollah.
There are apprehensions that the Houthis might target shipping vessels in the Bab al-Mandab strait, a vital route linking Yemen and the Horn of Africa at the southern end of the Red Sea.
