“Influencer and Dad Arrested in Murder-for-Hire Plot”

Date:

An influencer and her attorney father have been taken into custody for their alleged involvement in a scheme to hire a hitman from the dark web to eliminate her former boyfriend, a singer in a boy band.

Gabriela Gonzalez, a popular TikTok personality known for her lifestyle and travel content, along with her dad Francisco, are facing charges brought forth by Los Angeles County prosecutors for allegedly plotting the murder of her ex-partner, Jack Avery, with whom she shares a seven-year-old daughter.

The 25-year-old social media figure, recognized as gabbieegonzalez on TikTok, has been entangled in a protracted legal battle over custody and visitation rights with Mr. Avery, who is a former member of the music group Why Don’t We. The conflict reportedly involved Francisco Gonzalez extensively.

According to law enforcement reports, Francisco hired a private investigator to monitor Jack’s activities, seeking incriminating evidence to use against him in the custody dispute. There were instances where threats were made to have Avery arrested if he attempted to see his daughter.

Prosecutors claim that between 2020 and 2021, Gabriela enlisted the help of her then-boyfriend, Kai Cordrey, to locate a hitman through the dark web to carry out the murder. Allegedly, Francisco paid Cordrey $10,000 as an initial payment, disguised as compensation for web development services, and later provided an additional $4,000 as requested.

In a sting operation in September 2021, Cordrey purportedly engaged with an undercover law enforcement agent posing as a hitman, discussing details of the planned murder, including payment methods and proof of death verification. Cordrey implicated Gabriela and her father as the instigators behind the murder-for-hire plot.

Gabriela was apprehended in California last week, while her father was arrested in Lake Mary, Florida, on Monday on charges of conspiracy to commit murder, solicitation of murder, and attempted murder-for-hire. The trio, including Cordrey, were formally charged on Tuesday and could face a sentence of 25 years to life if convicted, as per state officials. Following the news of the arrests, Jack Avery reportedly obtained a restraining order against his ex-girlfriend.
