Andrew Tate and his brother have been taken into custody in the United States after a police investigation into various sexual offenses. The social media influencers, who have a substantial following, were arrested in Miami. Andrew Tate, aged 39, and Tristan Tate, aged 38, are being held for ongoing legal proceedings as 38 new charges have been filed against them.
The charges stem from allegations dating back to 2012, with authorities from Bedfordshire Police submitting evidence leading to previous authorizations by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). The investigation, conducted by the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, is also looking into other reported offenses in collaboration with law enforcement agencies.
The brothers currently face a total of 59 charges, with Andrew Tate facing 42 charges and Tristan Tate facing 17. Assistant Chief Constable Karena Thomas emphasized the importance of allowing the legal process to proceed without speculation, condemning violence against women and girls.
The CPS has requested the extradition of Andrew and Tristan Tate from the US to face charges including rape, human trafficking, and indecent images of a child. The alleged offenses are said to have occurred between July 2010 and August 2017. Malcolm McHaffie, head of the CPS’s Special Crime Division, highlighted that the decision to prosecute was based on additional evidence provided by Bedfordshire Police, bringing the total number of alleged victims to seven.
The Tates are currently awaiting extradition proceedings to the UK after their arrest.
