Two social media influencers have been found guilty of mistreating a French streamer who passed away during a live extreme challenge broadcast. Raphael Graven, also known as Jean Pormanove, was discovered unconscious on a bed by his co-streamers in a village near Nice, prompting the interruption of his livestream on the Kick platform that had been ongoing for over 298 hours.
Safine Hamadi and Owen Cenazandotti have been convicted of aggravated violence in connection with Graven’s death. The court in Nice sentenced them to suspended prison terms, with Hamadi receiving an 18-month sentence and Cenazandotti a two-year sentence, both suspended. Additionally, they were fined €5,000 and €15,000, respectively, and prohibited from posting online for six months.
The influencers were not charged with causing Graven’s death, as the prosecution suggested his health issues and heart condition were likely contributing factors. They were also cleared of exploiting Graven’s mental vulnerability, as he had reportedly consented to the extreme challenges. The autopsy results indicated that the death was not caused by external trauma.
Reports indicate that Graven endured prolonged mistreatment during his livestreams, including sleep deprivation, physical violence, and the consumption of harmful substances. The investigation revealed that some co-streamers may have engaged in abusive behavior for monetary gain, leading to concerns about deliberate violence against vulnerable individuals.
Kick, the streaming platform involved, is under investigation by French authorities, although it has stated that it was not involved in the legal proceedings against Hamadi and Cenazandotti. The platform clarified that the ruling pertained specifically to the two content creators and not to the platform itself. The Mirror has reached out to Kick for further comments.
