Japan was shaken by the gruesome acts of one of its most notorious serial killers, Tsutomu Miyazaki, known as the ‘Otaku Murderer.’ Miyazaki terrorized the nation in 1988 by brutally murdering, sexually assaulting, and dismembering young children in a series of horrific attacks. The disturbed man, obsessed with anime and pornography, engaged in necrophilia and cannibalism without showing any remorse for his heinous crimes.
Miyazaki’s troubled upbringing in Tokyo was marked by extreme trauma, with rumors suggesting he was born from an incestuous relationship, resulting in malformed hands that made him a target of ridicule. His descent into darkness began at the age of 26 after his grandfather’s death, which experts believe pushed him over the edge.
Following his grandfather’s funeral, Miyazaki consumed some of his ashes to feel closer to him while distancing himself from his family. His first victim was four-year-old Mari Konno, whom he abducted, strangled, and sexually abused before mutilating her body. He then sent a parcel containing her remains to her parents as a chilling reminder of his depravity.
Subsequently, Miyazaki abducted and murdered several more young girls, including Masami Yoshizawa and Erika Namba, showcasing his twisted and sadistic nature. His final victim, five-year-old Ayako Nomoto, suffered a similar fate, with her body being sexually violated and dismembered by the deranged killer.
Miyazaki’s reign of terror came to an end in 1989 when he was caught in the act by a vigilant father. Upon his arrest, he expressed feelings of loneliness and a disturbing connection to his victims. Despite his attempts to evade responsibility by blaming his alter ego ‘the Rat Man,’ Miyazaki was convicted and executed by hanging in 2008 at the age of 45 for his monstrous crimes.
