“Jody Jamieson Wins Gold Cup and Saucer Race”

Date:

Driver Jody Jamieson and Fifth and Five emerged victorious in the 67th edition of the Gold Cup and Saucer race held in Charlottetown on Saturday evening. This win is reminiscent of Jamieson’s father’s triumph in the same race back in 2006. Expressing his joy, Jamieson described the victory as a dream come true, emphasizing the significance of winning such a prestigious race.

The Gold Cup and Saucer race, boasting a prize purse of $100,000, annually draws trainers, owners, and drivers from various parts of North America to the Red Shores Racetrack and Casino. Jamieson, who has been following the race since childhood, reminisced about his father’s memorable 2006 win with the 11-to-1 longshot Banner Yankee. However, his recent win with Fifth and Five has now become his favorite, surpassing all previous race victories.

During the race, Jamieson strategically followed the horse and driver in the first post position, maintaining his position until the final stretch where he made his move confidently. The winning duo of Fifth and Five clocked a time of 1:49.4, with Jamieson praising the horse’s suitability for the track and impeccable behavior.

Following the race, Jamieson celebrated with his team in the winners circle, expressing his elation at achieving a long-held dream. He described the experience as surreal, indicating that the feeling of victory was beyond words and that he was content to savor the moment indefinitely.
