“Kremlin Warns of ‘Nuclear Doomsday’ Amid Russian Bomber Display”

Date:

The Kremlin raised concerns about a potential “nuclear doomsday” scenario following a demonstration of power by Russian strategic bombers above the northern seas adjacent to Britain. Footage captured the Tu-95MS aircraft on a mission over the Barents and Norwegian Seas, lasting over seven hours.

Russian defense authorities confirmed that NATO fighters were dispatched to intercept and track the sizable warplanes, commonly referred to as “Bears.” The heavy bombers were supported by Russian Sukhoi Su-30SM fighter jets engaged in inflight refueling operations during the sortie.

According to the ministry, foreign fighter planes closely monitored the strategic bombers along certain parts of their flight path. The Norwegian Sea, positioned north of Shetland, the UK’s most northerly island cluster, lies between Norway and Iceland.

This routine patrol coincided with a statement by Dmitry Medvedev, a close ally of Vladimir Putin, warning of a potential global “nuclear apocalypse.” Speaking at the Knowledge.First Marathon in Moscow, Medvedev emphasized the existential nature of the current conflict with the Western world, expressing grim expectations for the future.

Drawing parallels to pre-World War scenarios, Medvedev criticized Western leaders for suggesting that war is inevitable, highlighting the risks of escalating tensions. The iconic Tupolev bombers, operational since the 1950s and integral to Putin’s nuclear arsenal, are the only propeller-driven strategic bombers globally.

These aircraft have been involved in launching devastating conventional missile attacks, including those causing significant casualties in Ukraine. The Russian Aerospace Forces assured that all flights adhere strictly to international airspace regulations.

Meanwhile, environmental concerns arose as thick pollution from oil fires enveloped the Black Sea resort of Tuapse following repeated strikes by Ukrainian drones. The oil exporting port and refinery suffered severe damage, potentially crippling operations. Residents complained of breathing difficulties due to toxic fumes, with oil production levels dropping to their lowest since 2009.

Reports indicated that Russian forces targeted Ukrainian cities Kharkiv and Odesa in the ongoing conflict. The situation remains dynamic, with developments unfolding rapidly.
