Lindsay Vonn, aged 41, has recently undergone a second surgery on her leg after a serious fall during the downhill competition at the 2026 Winter Olympics. This marked her return to the Winter Olympics after an eight-year hiatus, following a remarkable comeback in 2025 from a five-year break. Despite a recent ACL injury before the Games, Vonn decided to compete.
During Sunday’s incident, Vonn sustained a broken leg, leading to immediate surgery. Subsequently, she underwent a second operation on Monday morning. The skilled skier, requiring initial stabilization, had a ‘double operation’ to address the femur fracture in her left leg using external fixation.
The surgeries were conducted at Ca’ Foncello Hospital in Treviso, following Vonn’s transfer from Codivilla Hospital in Cortina D’Ampezzo. Vonn later shared a statement on social media, explaining the minor error that caused the accident and addressing concerns about her health post-fall.
She expressed, “Yesterday, my Olympic aspirations did not conclude as envisioned. It was not a fairy tale ending, but a reality check. Despite the setback, I have no regrets. Ski racing involves risks, and I took a chance. Life is about daring greatly and embracing opportunities. I hope my journey inspires you to take risks and believe in yourself.”
