“Man Charged with Murder of 9-Year-Old in Arbroath Tragedy”

A man, aged 35, has made a court appearance on a murder charge in connection with the death of a nine-year-old girl who was found injured in Arbroath.

The girl, Minnie Merriman from West Yorkshire, was discovered at the Elliot industrial estate in Angus in the early hours of Monday while her family was camping nearby. She was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, where she passed away.

Christopher Rice, 35, from Wakefield, West Yorkshire, was charged with murder during his court appearance at Forfar Sheriff Court on Wednesday. He did not enter a plea and has been remanded in custody for further examination.

Rice is scheduled to appear in court again within the next eight days. Police have confirmed that Minnie and the accused were acquainted with each other.

In a statement released through Police Scotland, Minnie’s family paid tribute to her, describing her as “absolutely incredible, beautiful, and brave.” They have requested privacy during this challenging time.

Minnie was reportedly camping with her family, who are receiving support from specialized officers. Detective Inspector Mike Ness from Police Scotland’s major investigation team expressed condolences to Minnie’s family and stated that a police presence will be maintained in the area as investigations continue.
