Date:

A man has been sentenced to jail for causing a fatal car crash that resulted in the death of his friend. Elliot Bristow, 36, fled the accident scene after crashing his vehicle into a wall, leaving Olivia Lewis, 24, trapped inside. Despite initially denying his involvement, Bristow was apprehended by police hiding in a bush.

Bristow had consumed cannabis and alcohol while driving in South Wales. The incident occurred when Bristow lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash between Magor and Newport. The car flipped onto its side, with Olivia Lewis hanging out of a rear window.

An investigation revealed that Bristow was driving at double the speed limit just before the collision. Olivia’s mother expressed profound grief over the loss of her daughter, emphasizing the profound impact on her life. Bristow admitted guilt to causing death by dangerous driving, revealing that he was under the influence of cannabis at the time of the crash.

Sentenced to 11 years and three months in prison, Bristow was also banned from driving for over a decade and required to pass an extended driving test before regaining his license. The judge condemned Bristow’s reckless behavior, stating that he had prioritized his own interests over the safety of his passengers. Olivia’s family described her as a beloved and compassionate individual who brought joy to those around her.
