A man has been sentenced to prison for engaging in sexual activity with a minor after his partner discovered his actions and notified the authorities.
Lewis Herman, who initially misrepresented his age as 17, started communicating with a 14-year-old girl on Snapchat, requesting explicit photos and sending a video of himself engaging in a sexual act. The incidents occurred in the Teesside area inside his car during two separate occasions.
During sentencing, Recorder Christopher Rose informed Herman, now 21, from Westmorland Road, that his previous partner had reported the misconduct to the police. Herman was found guilty of multiple charges, including sexual communication with a minor, causing a minor to witness a sexual act, and inciting a minor to partake in sexual activities. He also admitted to facilitating the distribution of child abuse images.
Herman received a six-year prison term and will be required to register as a sex offender for life, in addition to being subject to a sexual harm prevention order and a restraining order for a decade.
In a statement, the victim expressed the profound emotional impact of the events on her life, leading to deteriorating mental health, increased anxiety, sleep disturbances, nightmares, and self-blame. She also mentioned feeling unsafe and experiencing panic attacks upon encountering individuals resembling Herman.
In defense, Victoria Lamballe stated that Herman partly disputes the trial’s outcome but acknowledges his problematic fixation on sexual matters and the jury’s decision.
