“Manchester Housing Block Evacuated Due to Carbon Monoxide Leak”

Date:

Residents and personnel at a housing block in Manchester city center were evacuated on Monday afternoon (June 15) due to a carbon monoxide leak, prompting the establishment of a safety cordon around the premises.

Emergency response teams, including police, paramedics, and firefighters, swiftly responded to the Bridgewater Heights accommodation block situated on Great Marlborough Street around 1:15 pm following reports of the hazardous gas leak.

As investigations commenced, residents were evacuated from the building. The cordoned-off area outside displayed water bottles, and both the pavement and entrance were secured off to ensure safety.

Gas monitoring equipment was utilized to inspect the structure, with emergency crews on-site in collaboration with gas network operator Cadent. The incident attracted five fire engines and a fleet of police vehicles, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.

A spokesperson from the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) stated: “Five fire engines from various locations in Greater Manchester were dispatched to the high-rise building on Great Marlborough Street in response to a carbon monoxide leak shortly after 1:15 pm this Monday, June 15.

“Firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used gas monitors to assess the building. They are presently working with Cadent Gas to ensure the safety of the area and residents. Firefighters are on-site at this time.”
