“Mick Jagger and Paul McCartney Almost Formed Supergroup”

Date:

In a new book by music journalist Bob Spitz, it is revealed that Mick Jagger and Paul McCartney, iconic figures in the music industry, were close to forming a supergroup akin to a ‘Rolling Beatles.’ The two legendary musicians had plans to establish their own studios and record label to dominate the British music scene. However, this partnership never materialized as John Lennon and George Harrison were not on board with the idea.

The potential collaboration between Jagger and McCartney extended to envisioning a joint Beatles/Stones headquarters at a disused brewery in Camden, north London. While McCartney was enthusiastic about the concept, Jagger, known for his business acumen, remained more grounded and practical. Despite the missed opportunity, The Rolling Stones, driven by Jagger and Richards’ songwriting talent, have achieved remarkable success with over 250 million albums sold worldwide and substantial earnings from touring.

The dynamic between Jagger and Richards offstage has been tumultuous, marked by Jagger’s frustration with Richards’ drug abuse and Richards’ disinterest in Jagger’s solo endeavors. Despite occasional tensions, their musical partnership has endured, with Jagger’s showmanship complementing Richards’ masterful guitar riffs.

Richards’ struggle with drug addiction reached a critical point during The Stones’ 1976 tour, leading to a harrowing incident where he fell asleep at the wheel. The aftermath of the crash resulted in legal troubles for Richards, highlighting the perils of his excessive drug use. Similarly, Ronnie Wood, who joined The Stones in 1975, faced his own battles with substance abuse, leading to tensions within the band.

Over the years, Jagger, Richards, and Wood have overcome their personal demons, with all three now leading sober lives. Their dedication to sobriety and health reflects a positive shift in their lifestyles, with Jagger focusing on fitness and flexibility through regular training routines. The band is gearing up for the release of their upcoming album, “Foreign Tongues,” featuring a collaboration with Paul McCartney.

Bob Spitz’s book delves into the intricate bond between Jagger and Richards, exploring the challenges they faced and the enduring connection that shaped their legendary musical journey. Despite the dark moments and trials they encountered, their shared passion for music and mutual respect have solidified their unique place in rock history.
