Mother Criticizes Police After Unmarked Vehicle Hits Son

Date:

After being struck by an unmarked police vehicle, the mother of a 13-year-old boy is criticizing the police for their actions. Junior Moran, 13, was knocked off his e-bike while returning from MMA training on Tuesday. CCTV footage captured the incident on Hilton Lane in Little Hulton, Salford.

In the video, Junior is seen being hit off his e-bike by the police officer driving the unmarked Greater Manchester Police (GMP) vehicle. Despite being initially detained, Junior can be heard pleading with the officers, claiming his innocence. The police later released him.

His mother, Jayne, expressed concern over her son’s well-being, stating that he was left disoriented and traumatized by the incident. She mentioned that Junior was unaware the individuals were police officers and would have cooperated if he had known.

According to GMP, Junior’s e-bike was deemed illegal, leading to the decision for one officer to make contact while another detained the teenager. The incident is under review by the force’s Professional Standards Directorate.

Jayne described her son’s ordeal, mentioning his severe concussion and the emotional distress he experienced. Following the incident, the family received an apology from the police superintendent during a hospital visit.

Greater Manchester Police acknowledged the incident and stated that they are investigating the use of tactical contact on the teenager. The force emphasized the importance of understanding the full circumstances and highlighted the standard procedure of recording such incidents.

The driving officer involved has had their driving authority withdrawn pending further investigation. The police reiterated that tactical contact is a technique utilized by trained officers to safely apprehend suspects and assured that all incidents are documented for review.
