The biological mother of infant Preston Davey expressed her deep-seated resentment towards Jamie Varley and John McGowan-Fazakerley for subjecting the child to prolonged sexual abuse before his tragic demise. Sarah Davey, emotionally overwhelmed, conveyed her devastation in court, describing Preston as her cherished child, “perfect from birth.”
She lamented how Preston was let down by those meant to shield him, emphasizing that his loss is an enduring anguish she will never overcome. Varley, a former educator, was convicted of murdering the 13-month-old in a heinous assault in July 2023, with McGowan-Fazakerley also facing sentencing for his involvement in Preston’s death and a joint assault on the child earlier.
Preston, Sarah Davey’s son, was entrusted to the couple’s care at nine months old and suffered severe physical, sexual, and emotional abuse under Varley’s watch, while McGowan-Fazakerley turned a blind eye before participating in the fatal attack on July 27.
