“Newborn Found in Louisiana Waffle House Porta-Potty Tragedy”

Date:

In a startling incident near a well-known restaurant chain in Louisiana, United States, a new-born baby boy was discovered inside a portable toilet. Authorities confirmed that the baby was born alive. The distressing find took place in Gretna, a suburb of New Orleans, near a Waffle House.

Emergency responders were alerted to the scene early on a Thursday morning. Allegedly, a woman entered the restaurant and informed the staff that she had given birth in a nearby portable toilet. Police and medical personnel quickly arrived at the Waffle House location on West Bank Expressway.

Subsequently, law enforcement officers located the infant’s body in the tank of a porta-potty at a construction site close to the Mississippi River. The official autopsy report revealed that the baby was alive at the time of birth. Tragically, the infant was found in liquid cleaning chemicals within the portable toilet tank and died from asphyxia by drowning.

The Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office disclosed that the baby, weighing 7.2lbs, was born during the third trimester of the mother’s pregnancy. The infant, who remained unnamed, is likely to receive a simple burial if no relatives come forward by the end of April. Authorities mentioned that the mother of the child was likely homeless when she gave birth.

In Louisiana, the Safe Haven Law permits parents to surrender custody of a new-born up to 60 days old without legal repercussions. Babies can be left at designated locations such as hospitals, fire stations, police stations, or public health units under this law. Lise Naccari, the founder of Compassionate Burials for Indigent Babies, emphasized the importance of mothers being aware of the Safe Haven Law to prevent such tragic incidents.
