The incident occurred on July 18, causing spectators to be evacuated temporarily as the fire spread through nearby bushes and trees bordering Cale Green Park.
According to club officials, this event is part of a series of targeted incidents involving fires and vandalism at the cricket club. Rebecca Evans, upon noticing the fire, immediately called emergency services while monitoring the escalating situation. She ensured the safety of children present by moving them to a secure location within the clubhouse until the fire brigade arrived.
The cricket pitch’s edge, which faces Cale Green Park, often attracts people who remain hidden among the bushes, making it challenging to monitor activities in the area. The recent incident occurred amid a wave of wildfires across the country due to the exceptionally high temperatures this summer.
Stockport Cricket Club has faced multiple instances of damage, including vandalism, fires, and racist graffiti in recent years.
