Date:

A pirate-themed vessel, the “Big Boss Diamond,” carrying nearly 150 individuals, including British tourists, has sunk in the Mediterranean near Paradise Island on Friday, May 29. Reports indicate that the incident occurred with 148 passengers on board.

Videos shared on social media depicted individuals leaping from the sinking ship, while others clung to the vessel, including 20 children. The boat began taking on water in Akvaryum Bay and submerged entirely within one hour, leaving only its masts and rigging visible in the clear blue water.

Rescue teams swiftly responded, successfully evacuating all passengers to safety onshore. A British passenger who survived the ordeal expressed relief at being alive after the boat sank.

According to a statement from the Muğla Governorship, no casualties, injuries, or health issues were reported among the rescued passengers. The vessel, touted as the largest pirate ship in Turkey and known for its family party cruises, offers holidaymakers tours around various Turkish islands with unlimited beverages for a fee.

The boat’s operator reassured concerned guests and friends on Instagram, confirming their safety and plans to continue trips with another vessel. While the cause of the sinking remains unclear, some passengers mentioned a possible engine fire.
