“Prince Harry’s UK Security Review Delayed Amid Protection Concerns”

Date:

Prince Harry’s security arrangements in the UK are on hold while officials focus on protecting nine former Prime Ministers. The Duke of Sussex was informed that a risk management board would review his automatic protection status during his UK visits at the end of 2025. However, the scheduled review by an independent body in March has been postponed.

The delay is partly attributed to the challenge of providing high-level security for politicians, including the nine ex-Prime Ministers. To address the demand, officials implemented a temporary pause lasting about four months.

A source familiar with the Risk Management Board process criticized the Home Office’s decision to halt the assessments due to a reported backlog. They emphasized the importance of these evaluations in ensuring the safety of politicians and public figures, highlighting the risks posed by potential threats.

Concerns were raised about the underfunding and strain on protective security measures in the country. There were reports of trained protection officers being reassigned to other policing duties to compensate for shortages. This situation raised questions about the prioritization of protective security for individuals in key public roles.

Following his decision to step back from royal duties, Prince Harry was informed that he would no longer receive automatic police security during his visits to the UK. He is now required to provide advance notice before each visit, with his security risk assessed before protection is granted.

Upon returning to the UK, Prince Harry has not been granted full security coverage. Additionally, he lost a legal battle against the Home Office in May of last year.
