A golfer from Saskatchewan achieved his first-ever hole-in-one while competing at the National Special Olympics event. Taylor Carter, residing in Regina, has been actively involved in golf since the age of four and joined the Special Olympics team in 2013. The memorable moment occurred at the Medicine Hat Golf and Country Club, leaving a lasting impact on Carter.
Taylor expressed his disbelief and emotional reaction to the achievement, stating that watching the video of the hole-in-one still brings tears to his eyes. His nephew, Ashton Carter, served as his caddy during the tournament. When they approached the 135-yard 16th hole, Taylor confidently took a shot with a nine-iron, leading to the remarkable feat.
As the ball landed in the hole, Taylor’s brother was the first to recognize the hole-in-one, sparking jubilant celebrations among his family. The heartwarming moment was captured on video by Taylor’s sister-in-law, Kyra-Lee Carter. Taylor also shared a special hug with his best friend Jason, who had traveled to support him at the competition.
Despite the excitement, Taylor and Ashton managed to compose themselves to finish the round successfully. Taylor clinched the gold medal in his division, finishing the three-day tournament with a total score of 162 over three rounds, securing victory by a margin of two strokes.
Reflecting on the experience, Ashton expressed admiration for the athletes’ confidence and individuality, emphasizing the positive impact on his own self-assurance. Taylor, grateful for the support from his family and friends, plans to continue practicing and celebrating his achievement while considering future competitions.
