Scottish Woman Found Dead in Suitcase in Athens, Investigation Underway

Date:

Greek police are currently investigating the death of Elisabeth-Jane Ross, a 38-year-old Scottish woman whose body was discovered in a suitcase in an abandoned building in Kypseli, Athens. The body was found by a homeless individual on July 18, three days after Elisabeth went missing. Authorities suspect she may have been deceased for about eight days before being found.

A post-mortem examination is underway, and toxicology tests are being expedited to determine the cause of Elisabeth’s death. Additionally, police have conducted tests on the suitcase, but no fingerprints or DNA evidence were found on it.

Speaking on the case, police spokesperson Konstantina Dimoglidou emphasized the importance of identifying the individual who left the suitcase, as no traceable evidence was left behind. The investigation involves the full resources of the Greek FBI’s homicide division, with collaboration from other law enforcement agencies to resolve the case.

As of now, the cause of Elisabeth’s death remains undetermined, and authorities have not classified the case as a murder investigation. Test results are expected to be available in the near future.

In a related development, a homeless man known as ‘Markos’ has been labeled as the prime suspect in the investigation. He was known to frequent the area where Elisabeth’s body was found but has since disappeared. Described as a drug user and heavy drinker with a history of aggression, Markos is in his forties and heavily tattooed.

Elisabeth had traveled to Greece from the US via Cyprus and was staying with Greek friends in Keratsini before her disappearance. Her friends have been cleared of any involvement in her death. Authorities are also looking to identify the American friends she had mentioned visiting in Kypseli.

The investigation is ongoing as police work to uncover more details surrounding Elisabeth’s tragic death and the circumstances leading up to it.
