“Search Underway for 27 Missing after Indonesia Boat Sinks”

Date:

A search operation is underway for 27 individuals who went missing when a passenger vessel sank in turbulent waters off the eastern coast of Indonesia. The boat, named Nazila 05, was en route from Taliabu Island in North Maluku province to Kema village when it encountered rough seas. The vessel’s owner, Rifani Samatia, was notified by the captain that the boat’s bow broke due to high waves before eventually sinking. Although the crew managed to evacuate using a lifeboat, their current whereabouts are unknown.

The North Maluku province, situated in the northern region of the Maluku Islands, is renowned for its pristine beaches and active volcanoes. Historically referred to as the ‘Spice Islands’ by Dutch settlers, the Maluku Islands were famous for the cultivation of cloves and nutmeg.
