“Security Concerns Keep Meghan Markle from Prince Harry’s Invictus Event”

Date:

The Duchess of Sussex has arrived in the UK for the first time in four years, but chose not to attend an official event for Prince Harry’s Invictus Games. Meghan, aged 44, was expected to join Harry at the celebration in Birmingham but did not appear alongside him due to security concerns stemming from the lack of police protection for the family.

Instead of attending the event, Meghan and their children Prince Archie, aged seven, and Princess Lilibet, aged five, stayed at Althorp in Northants, owned by Harry’s uncle Earl Spencer and the resting place of Princess Diana. The absence of Meghan came shortly after Harry, aged 41, faced a setback in court against Associated Newspapers and was denied staying at Buckingham Palace.

During today’s event at NEC, where Harry was present, a team of uniformed police officers entered the venue. Guests included Labour MP Al Carns, who resigned as defence minister over a military spending dispute, and former Invictus competitor turned TV presenter JJ Chalmers.

Mr. Carns described the tight security at the venue and refrained from commenting on the Duchess’s absence, focusing instead on praising Prince Harry’s support for Invictus and veterans. The event showcased new sports for the upcoming Invictus Games, with Harry actively participating and engaging with fellow veterans.

Despite the absence of Meghan, Harry showcased enthusiasm and support for the event, interacting with participants and delivering a speech appreciating the Invictus community’s dedication. He also engaged in a light-hearted TV interview, expressing love for his family and shared moments of humor with the presenter.

Next year’s Invictus Games in Birmingham will host 550 competitors from 25 nations in various adaptive events, emphasizing the event’s role in aiding recovery and rebuilding confidence among wounded service personnel and veterans. Meghan is expected to attend private family gatherings during her UK visit, away from public events, including a potential family reunion with King Charles.

Relations between Harry and the King have reportedly been strained since Harry and Meghan’s decision to step back from royal duties. Despite challenges, Harry remains dedicated to supporting veterans and promoting the Invictus movement.
