A security guard sustained severe injuries following an alleged assault by a train passenger during a ticket inspection. The incident occurred on a regional train operated by Deutsche Bahn in Germany, traveling from Offenburg to Karlsruhe. The altercation began when a 36-year-old passenger, who was asked for his ticket, engaged in a verbal dispute leading to a physical confrontation with the security guards. The 26-year-old security guard, reportedly pushed by the intoxicated passenger, fell through a door, causing significant head injuries.
The incident, which occurred near Ettlingen-Bruchhausen, involved a door opening while the train was in motion, but the emergency stop system did not activate. The suspect, a German national, was apprehended and faces charges, though the specific allegations remain undisclosed. Following the altercation, the injured security guard was found about 1.25 miles away from where the train eventually stopped. Notably, a similar incident in February resulted in the death of a train conductor in western Germany.
An investigation into the incident has been initiated as a priority. The perpetrator, aged 26, was convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison for manslaughter in connection with the incident.
