Serial killer Rose West planned to sexually assault a young inmate whom she had been grooming for weeks. West faced consequences from prison authorities, losing privileges and receiving disciplinary action after the assault. Serving a life sentence since 1995 for her involvement in the murders of women and girls alongside her husband Fred, West is currently incarcerated at New Hall Prison in West Yorkshire.
According to a source, West exploited her victim, a vulnerable young woman, by offering assistance with chores like cooking and sewing to build a closer relationship before attempting the assault. Described as seemingly harmless but extremely dangerous, West’s actions shocked fellow inmates and staff. The incident, where it’s unclear if West was caught in the act or reported by her victim, led to immediate intervention by guards and restrictions on West’s movements.
The source expressed disgust at the freedom West had to plan such an attack. Renaming herself Jennifer Jones in 2020, West, now 72, has been in confinement since the mid-1990s for her role in the Cromwell Street murders in Gloucester. Her husband, Fred, who committed suicide at age 53 while awaiting trial in 1995, was also involved in the crimes. West, convicted of 10 murders, received 10 life sentences with a whole life order in 1995.
The UK Prison and Probation Service has been contacted for comment on the matter.
