“Six Bodies Found in Cargo Train Carriage in Laredo Railyard”

Date:

Police have verified the discovery of six deceased individuals inside a cargo train carriage. The unsettling finding occurred at a railyard in Laredo on Sunday, May 10, on a Union Pacific cargo train. Authorities have initiated a comprehensive investigation following the distressing revelation.

The Laredo police department confirmed the presence of six deceased individuals, with the bodies being found around 2:30 p.m. at 12101 Jim Young Way near mile marker 13. The identities and nationalities of the deceased have not been disclosed by authorities, nor has it been confirmed if they were migrants. Laredo, situated opposite Nuevo Laredo in Mexico, serves as a prominent border crossing point between the US and Mexico.

Notably, in July 2024, Border Patrol agents in the Laredo Sector rescued 23 migrants who were attempting to hide on a Union Pacific train at the same location. The migrants were locked inside an autorack railcar but were safely rescued by the agents.

The recent fatalities have occurred amidst a period of intense heat in the region, with weather reports indicating temperatures rose to around 95°F, and the heat index surged to about 104°F on that Sunday afternoon, as reported by the Mirror US.

In response to the incident, Union Pacific expressed their sorrow, stating, “Union Pacific is saddened by this incident and is collaborating closely with law enforcement for investigation purposes.”
