Diane Cole, the former wife of Steve Wright, known as the Suffolk strangler, has expressed her deep concerns, labeling him a “disgrace to humanity” and suspecting that he may have been involved in the deaths of numerous other women.
Reflecting on Wright’s self-proclaimed moniker as the ‘mean machine,’ Diane, aged 71 and residing in the north east, expressed a mix of emotions upon his partial confession, stating, “I was thrilled but surprised he admitted it. I still think there’s more to come, at least another four or five women.”
Revealing her past anxieties, Diane disclosed, “I used to search Google for missing persons. I became fixated initially. He’s a vicious individual who I believe has taken the lives of many more women. I sincerely hope he reveals the truth for the sake of the grieving families.”
Describing Wright as a “monster” and a “disgrace to humanity,” Diane acknowledged the closure that his confession may bring to the affected families, while emphasizing the irreplaceable loss of a daughter.
Recalling a terrifying encounter with Wright, Diane shared how she narrowly escaped a life-threatening situation when he attempted to strangle her. She recounted the harrowing experience of being pinned against a wall, emphasizing her relief at alerting neighbors to deter him.
Expressing her shock at Wright’s admission of killing a sixth woman, Diane highlighted her survival instincts during their tumultuous relationship, noting, “I was lucky to be alive.”
Recounting the progression of their relationship from a chance meeting on the QE2 to escalating abuse behind closed doors, Diane painted a grim picture of her marriage to the serial killer, characterized by deceit and violence.
Despite enduring physical and emotional trauma during their brief marriage, Diane expressed gratitude for surviving the volatile relationship, noting her disbelief at escaping with her life intact.
Reflecting on her earlier suspicions regarding Wright’s potential involvement in the disappearance of Suzy Lamplugh, Diane admitted uncertainty about his culpability, citing his lack of driving skills at the time as a factor.
Ultimately, Diane reiterated her desire for Wright to disclose the truth for the benefit of the victims’ families, expressing sympathy for their enduring pain in the wake of his admissions.
