“US Torpedo Sinks Iranian Warship in Indian Ocean”

Date:

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that an Iranian warship was sunk by a torpedo fired from a US submarine in the Indian Ocean. This marked the first US attack on Iranian forces outside the Middle East, resulting in the death of more than 87 individuals on board the vessel.

Hegseth also claimed that an Iranian assassination squad had made an attempt on President Donald Trump’s life in 2024. He stated that the US forces successfully located and eliminated the leader of the unit responsible for the assassination attempt.

Regarding the possibility of US troops on the ground in Iran, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt mentioned that it has not been ruled out. Although she clarified that it is not part of the current operation plan, she emphasized that military options are always considered on behalf of the US president.

Leavitt also highlighted that Spain has agreed to cooperate with the US military, following tensions over the use of Spanish bases for operations related to strikes on Iran. However, Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares denied claims of military cooperation with the US, affirming Spain’s stance against involvement in the conflict.

The sinking of the Iranian warship by a US torpedo off the coast of Sri Lanka resulted in the recovery of 87 bodies and the rescue of 32 individuals. Sri Lankan authorities confirmed the incident and noted that the rescued sailors were taken to the hospital for treatment.
