A courageous teacher at a high school in Manchester was stabbed in the neck while shielding students during a triple stabbing incident. Identified as Maysum Abdullah, 27, he was injured in the attack that occurred at Co-op Academy Manchester in Blackley. The school was placed on lockdown after a pupil was reported to have a knife, but the situation was quickly contained by school staff.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed that counter-terrorism authorities are now leading an investigation into the incident, although they have clarified that it is not being treated as a terrorist act. The attack resulted in injuries to three individuals: a 14-year-old girl with shoulder injuries, a 14-year-old boy with ear injuries, and Mr. Abdullah with neck and hand injuries. Fortunately, all are now recovering at home, and their injuries are not considered serious.
Following the incident, a 14-year-old schoolgirl was arrested for Section 18 assault and subsequently detained under the Mental Health Act. She has now been charged with three counts of attempted murder. Mr. Abdullah, the heroic teacher, is still processing the traumatic event, and his wife, Saima, expressed gratitude for the support received. She highlighted her husband’s dedication to protecting students and thanked everyone for their kindness during this challenging time.
The Co-Op Academies Trust commended the quick and brave actions of the staff in swiftly detaining the student involved in the incident. Greater Manchester Police announced that Counter Terrorism Policing North West is leading the investigation with their support.
