Two teenagers were interrogated by authorities following the discovery of an 11-year-old boy’s lifeless body near a river with a damp towel wrapped around his neck.
The unidentified boy was found deceased on the edge of the Vilaine River in Rennes, France, after a fisherman heard a child’s cries around 4:40 pm on Sunday. Emergency services were immediately contacted, and firefighters arrived ten minutes later, but their efforts to save the boy were unsuccessful.
In response to the tragic incident, French police initiated a murder investigation, leading to the arrest of a 16-year-old boy at his residence and a 15-year-old girl who surrendered at a police station the next day, according to Rennes prosecutor Frederic Teillet.
Teillet disclosed that the victim was actually 11 years old, correcting earlier reports stating he was 12. Reports indicate that the boy’s mother was searching for him when he went fishing with a friend in the area where the incident occurred, described as a wooded space beneath a bridge by the river.
The connection between the three children involved remains unclear. The investigation has been handed over to the organized and specialized crime division for further inquiry.
