The Met Office has issued an uncommon amber weather warning for Storm Dave, which is expected to be in effect shortly.
The amber wind warning is scheduled from 7 pm until 3 am on Sunday, encompassing North Wales, northern England, and parts of southern Scotland. This warning coincides with yellow wind warnings and a yellow snow warning affecting northern Scotland.
The newly issued amber warning indicates a high probability of power outages in the affected areas due to potential wind speeds of up to 80mph. Additionally, there is a risk to life from airborne debris and high waves.
Urging preparedness for potential power disruptions, the Met Office advises individuals to gather essential items such as torches, batteries, and a mobile phone power pack.
Residents are advised to limit outdoor activities and secure loose objects around their residences. Precautionary measures include checking and securing items like bins, garden furniture, trampolines, tents, sheds, and fences before the arrival of high winds.
Met Office Chief Meteorologist Chris Bulmer warned of the incoming very strong winds associated with Storm Dave, with the most intense gusts anticipated in the amber warning zone. Disruption to travel is likely, and power cuts are possible.
Wind speeds are forecasted to reach their peak at different times as a deep low-pressure system traverses the northern part of the UK. The strongest gusts are expected to begin in Northern Ireland on Saturday afternoon before extending across the northern regions of the UK.
