“Storm Dave Brings 12-Inch Snow Alert to UK”

Date:

An updated snow alert has been issued by the Met Office, warning of up to 12 inches of snowfall in the UK. Various weather warnings are in effect across Wales, Scotland, England, and Northern Ireland due to Storm Dave, with wind gusts reaching 90mph in exposed areas.

The national weather agency has updated its snow warning, effective from 2pm today until 3am on Sunday, primarily covering northern Scotland. According to the Met Office, areas above 200m could see up to 30cm of snow accumulation, while lower-lying regions may experience 5cm to 10cm. Strong winds may cause snow drifting and potential blizzard conditions in exposed areas.

Additionally, there is a risk of flooding in some low-lying areas due to rain. The Met Office warns of possible minor surface water flooding. Regions such as Grampian, Highlands & Eilean Siar are advised to expect travel disruptions, potential power outages, and limited services like mobile phone coverage.

Residents are encouraged to prepare for power cuts by stocking up on essentials like torches, batteries, and a mobile phone power pack. Motorists are advised to keep emergency supplies in their vehicles, including warm clothing, food, water, a blanket, a torch, ice scraper, warning triangle, high-visibility vest, and an in-car phone charger.
