Tesla, the electric car company led by Elon Musk, has announced a recall of Cybertruck models due to a serious wheel issue that could lead to wheels detaching while driving. The recall affects rear-wheel-drive Cybertrucks produced between March 21, 2024, and November 25, 2025, equipped with 18-inch steel wheels.
The problem lies in the fragile stud holes, which can develop cracks due to road vibrations, potentially causing the wheel stud to separate from the wheel hub. This defect poses a significant safety risk, including loss of vehicle control and an increased chance of accidents or even fatalities.
Tesla will replace the hubs, lug nuts, and front and rear brake rotors on the affected Cybertruck models free of charge. The recall was prompted by the discovery of the wheel stud issue in a single Cybertruck during routine maintenance in August 2025, with only three related warranty claims identified so far.
Despite the recall affecting only 173 vehicles, it adds to the challenges faced by Tesla, with the brand experiencing declining sales and failing to meet ambitious sales targets set by Musk. Furthermore, recent data reveals that Musk’s SpaceX is a major customer of Cybertrucks, contributing to the brand’s overall sales figures.
Recently, Tesla lost its top position as the world’s leading electric car seller to Chinese brand BYD, marking a downturn in sales for Musk’s company. In the UK, Tesla has issued multiple recall notices for various models, including the Cybertruck.
